We have curated false impressions? as part of our Masters
Gallery Studies course at the University of Essex. Our joint interest
in contemporary art led us to explore the ongoing debate surrounding
originality in art. Curating false impressions? has gained
us hands on experience in organising all parts of an exhibition,
part of which you see on this web site! We all look forward to working
in museums and galleries in the future.
our artistic interests
»I am fascinated in the art and architecture of Pre-Columbian
America. Having written my final year dissertation on this subject,
I hope to one-day travel to Mexico and Peru and experience these
fascinating countries at first hand. I am also interested in twentieth
century and contemporary Mexican art. My favourite gallery is the
National Portrait Gallery!«

»I come from a fairly traditional art historic background
and my main areas of study were in early Renaissance art and twentieth
century architecture. I'm very interested in reading visual art
through other disciplines such as psychoanalysis and feminism and
I love artists with intense emotional lives that come through in
their art like Francis Bacon and William Blake! I'm also passionate
about contemporary art and this is the area in which I hope to curate.«

»How does one combine politics and art? The possibility I
see is in the cultural field. Ideally I see myself working in an
environment that brings different cultures closer together through
the exchange of art and ideas. Curating both, the ideas as well
as the arts, is what I would like to do.«

»I particularly like to look at the meanings of art in a
wider context. Contemporary art and its interaction with society
and how we can interpret this as a reflection of our culture is
an aspect that I am interested in.«

»My main interests lie in contemporary and modern art, especially
the Chapman brothers, Marlene Dumas and Rothko. I practised Fine
Art Printmaking on my BA, in particular I became fond of etching
and lithography, but on discovering that I was not a very good artist,
I decided to do an MA in Gallery Studies to learn how to display
work by people who were talented artists. After this course I plan
to pursue a career in a modern art gallery in any of the big cities
and become a successful curator and breeder of short haired dachshunds.«

»After my printmaking degree I took a year out to pursue
my grand ideas of becoming a curator, but impatience took over and
I decided to do an MA in gallery studies as a way of speeding up
the process and the gain of all the knowledge I would need to survive
in the art world! I would like to continue practicing printmaking,
but my goal at the moment is to concentrate on curating with an
emphasis on education and introducing children to the arts outside
of the classroom.«
