detail of Sinners, Saints and Lovers: No. 1—
» The concept
of the authentic or original are both false constructs, illusions
so to speak, that artists living and working in today’s hyper-mediated
world have to come to terms with. What is interesting, however,
is the ideological and financial validation that authenticity and
originality supposedly confer on to work. «

detail of Sinners, Saints and Lovers: No. 7—
Predrag Pajdic draws inspiration from classical art historical
references, and in these works from the Sinners, Saints and Lovers
series, he deals with issues of identity, transformation, performativity
and preconceived notions of gender. In these works Pajdic has reproduced
the portrait of Doge Leonardo Loredan by Giovanni Bellini. He reinvents
and reinterprets recent history from a 21st century perspective.
In this series the Doge transforms from Renaissance to contemporary
man, changing in each piece, yet all the time his pen and ink drawing
technique is constantly accurate in its reproduction, which creates
a beautifully produced series.
Pajdic’s work is stunning in the technicality of the drawing.
Each piece in the series is individually hand drawn, yet the reproduction
of a similar image each time shows the professionalism with which
he makes his art. The ambivalence of the piece allows the viewer
to interpret the work at their own free will.
